Volume 1: Celestial Laws (Tong Shen Lun) · Chapter 2
The Earthly Way (Di Dao)
Attributed to Jing Tu (Song); commentary tradition by Liu Bowen (Ming)
Earth answers heaven
Heaven issues the season; earth receives it and makes something grow or fail. In a chart, the branches are earth's answer to the stems' command — the ground the day master actually stands on. The five elements are never evenly spread: whichever is over-represented or missing decides fortune and misfortune. The practical instruction is to read the chart as a landscape being watered unevenly, not as a scoreboard.
Classical Verse & Annotated Translation
Line-by-line alignment between Classical Chinese and precise English translation.
When the receptive earth joins its virtue to heaven's, the hidden mechanism opens; it is the balance or imbalance of the five qi that settles fortune and misfortune.
