When a combination changes the element
Transformation is the stem combination that changes what the day master is — Jia combining with Ji to become earth, for instance. When the transformation is true, the chart is read from the new element and the old identity is set aside. The chapter's caution matches the previous one: the spirit produced by the transformation has its own varieties, and a transformation that does not actually take holds leaves the chart in an ambiguous state that must be resolved before anything else is read.
