A Bridge Over the Hall
Three lines only. A bridge raised high in front of the hall, matched on left, right and rear, is said to sweep a household's goods away within three to five years, until the fields must be sold. The chapter ends by noting that the rule has proved true repeatedly and so is set down as a mnemonic.
