Twenty-Seven House Shapes, Read One by One
The longest section of Book One is a gallery of house shapes in verse. Each quatrain describes one configuration of ground — short on the left or long on the right, narrow in front or broad behind, a mound at this direction or a pond at that — and delivers its verdict. The readings are concrete and repeatable, and the same shape always draws the same conclusion, which is what makes the section usable as a field manual.
