BaZi compatibility — 合婚 (hé hūn) in Chinese — puts two complete Four Pillars charts side by side. It does not compare your zodiac animals; it compares how each of you operates (your Day Master), where partnership sits in each chart (the spouse palace), whether your element balances complement or compete, and whether your luck cycles line up. The output is a map of tendencies and timing windows, not a verdict on your relationship.

What BaZi Compatibility Actually Compares

A single BaZi chart is four pillars — year, month, day, hour — written as eight characters. Compatibility work reads four layers across the two charts:

• Day Master — the stem of your birth day, the closest thing BaZi has to a core personality. It describes how each person makes decisions, handles pressure and spends energy.
• The spouse palace — the branch of your birth day. In classical reading it is the seat of partnership, and the relationship between two spouse palaces says a great deal about daily life together.
• Five-element balance — one chart may run hot and dry while the other is cool and wet. Compatibility reading asks whether the two imbalances correct each other or double down.
• Luck cycles and the years ahead — the ten-year cycles (大运) each person is moving through, and whether the two timelines are converging, diverging or merely out of phase.

How Each Layer Is Judged

• Generating Day Masters — wood feeding fire, fire making earth — tend to feel supportive: one person's output is the other's fuel. Controlling pairs (water dousing fire, metal cutting wood) are not 'bad matches'; they describe a pattern where one style keeps interrupting the other, which is workable once it is named.
• Spouse palaces that combine (六合) read as ease and natural alignment; palaces in clash (六冲) read as pull-and-push — magnetic, but exhausting without ground rules. Harm (六害) and punishment (相刑) relations show up as small recurring frictions rather than dramatic ones.
• Element complement is the most practical layer: if one chart is chronically short of fire and the other carries a lot of it, the pairing has a built-in resource. Two charts with the identical excess usually amplify the same blind spot.

Why the Hour Pillar Matters (and What Happens Without It)

• Romantic compatibility leans on the spouse palace, the harmony indicators and how the two charts handle rest and intimacy.

What It Can and Cannot Do

3. Compare the two spouse palaces: combination, clash, harm or neutral. Then compare element balances and note what each chart is short of.
4. Line up the luck cycles and the next two or three years — that is the window in which the other three layers get expressed.

BaZi Compatibility FAQ

Is BaZi compatibility the same as zodiac compatibility? No. Zodiac compatibility uses only the year animal — one character out of eight. BaZi uses the full chart, and the year pillar is the least personal of the four.

Do we both need exact birth times? No, but the reading is sharper with them. Day-pillar analysis works from the birth date alone; the hour adds resolution on children, late-life patterns and part of the timing.

What if our charts clash? A clash is a pattern, not a sentence. Clashing spouse palaces describe a relationship with more pull-and-push than average, which is why the reading spends its last chapter on friction points and how each side can absorb them.

Can two people with the same Day Master work? Yes — mirror pairs understand each other quickly and can also amplify the same weakness. The reading treats it as a shared blind spot to manage, not a disqualification.
